Voices Ignored

How many times can I say I need help before the healthcare system actually pays attention and believes me? I believe insurance is to blame for a lot of dismissive treatment that occurs. Insurance companies have taken over deciding exactly which health benefit will be at what cost and who can even receive that benefit. My now insurance is supposed to be great. it was supposed to help the general public be able to access healthcare and afford to do so. The system just fucked it up.

Society loves to make hierarchies or charts where they can place people or things in what they view as a simple and organized manner. This has led to people like myself who are on Medicaid being boxed in as someone who is just lazy, playing the system, and don’t know anything anyway. Unfortunately, this boxed grouping isn’t only impacting me as an adult, it impacts my children too. Children have no reason to be already grouped as manipulating or faking. They’re just children. Just like an adult deserves healthcare of a certain standard, so does a child. Some could even make the argument that children need it even more because they are the future. Now look, I’m not on Medicaid because I didn’t want to feel like working or because I just thought it was the easier route. I’m on Medicaid due to many unfortunate events that have put me in the position of needing support and help while I can improve my well-being, my children did not decide that they wanted to be on Medicaid. That is something that happened because of me. What I don’t get is how that has then made me a second-rate citizen. There are times when I have to call like 10 or more offices to try to find a doctor or a specialist whether it’s for me or my kids, and then they ask for insurance, and I tell them I have Medicaid, the attitude becomes so thick with dislike to the point of being aggressive. sometimes these places are just not contracted with the particular Medicaid. but for the people who are contracted with Medicaid and still decide to treat you hostilely, like damn dude. I didn’t do anything to you and all I want is to keep my family healthy and be able to get them care. It’s harsh. The realization that insurance gets to dictate whether or not and how much treatment I can get. Honestly, it comes off as if these companies have a god complex. I just wish the system would engage in active listening in not be so quick to slam someone to the floor based on a type of insurance.
